Are you having a problem finding information to help your child with their career aspirations? This page is dedicated to outside resources for teachers, parents and volunteers. On line Learning Wake County Online Learning - Have you ever wanted to take a course online? This is a great website with a variety of inexpensive courses sponsored by Wake County. North Carolina Virtural Class Public School - This site makes it easy for public school students to learn online and earn high school or college credits, while in high school. Web 2.0 Learning Wikis and Blogs - This site is a good place to start if you are interested in wiki or blog creation. Twitter - Another way to stay in touch with family, friends or a group of like minded people, online, text messaging etc. It's limited to 150 characters so it's short. Custom Guide - This site has tutorials about popular programs like Excel and Word, as well as reference guides for these programs. This is a free site which allows you to print off these reference guide. Text abbreviations - These can be tricky, especially if you're not of the same age group sending the message. Check out this site for an easy translation. Language Arts www.freerice.com - This is a great site to hone your SAT vocabulary skills and give to a good cause all at the same time for free. If you want that job you have to be able to express yourself. Mathematics End of Grade Math Tests - This page has sample questions similar to the end of grade math questions. Look for Sample Test Items. Math is important to all careers. National Library of Virtual Manipulatives - This site is dedicated to math instruction and interactive learning tools. North Carolina Science, Math and Technology Education Center - Science and Math teachers, let the NC Science, Math and Technology Education Center help you with your work. They provide classes so teachers can learn about things like lasers for free. Practical Money Skills for Life - This site has great games for students to learn about money skills set up by Visa. What good is money if you can't keep track of it? Social Studies Wake Forest University Anthropology Database - This website catalogues all the information currently in the Wake Forest anthropology collection. Careers are global and knowing about other societies is a must. North Carolina Museum of History - Check out what's new at the museum and plan a visit for this weekend. Don't let history repeat itself, get out there and make it your career. Science Science Careers - This website from the journal Science has excellent articles about careers in science. NASA - This site is designed for educators to share science information for grades K-12. What could be more exciting than a career in space exploration? JPL Labs - NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory has great pictures of the planets and its all free. Learn more about astronomy, engineering and get that career moving. National Weather Service - Find out the current weather forecasts for anywhere in the world. If weather is your thing, this is the perfect place to start. North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences - Visit our state museum to search their database of land and see animals. Plan a field trip for that budding zoologist. Art North Carolina Museum of Art - Visit the museum's art collection on line. See what other artists are doing. Nasher Museum of Art - Duke's own Nasher museum offers changing exhibits and views of its permanent collection. Ackland Museum at the University of North Carolina - Search UNC Chapel Hill's Ackland Museum's permanent collection. General Davis Drive's Media Page - This is a excellent place to start if you haven't already looked there. There are many tools to help you study for your career. Learn NC.org - This site is great for helping teachers and students alike find information about lesson plans, resources for homework and the Standard Course of Study. Get a jump start on topics to find your career. NC Wise Owl - A must visit site for your students. It has topical information geared to students on grade level to help with their homework. An excellent aid in studying and preparing for the future. SAS in School - This free site provides instructional material in Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. Contact the Career Development Coordinator for a login. Push yourself with some advanced work as you prepare for high school. North Carolina Department of Public Instruction - Need to learn more about education in North Carolina? The DPI website is a doorway into how our students are doing, what programs are available, curriculum information and more. Teachable Moments - This document is a teacher's tool to help improve achievement for students with multiple academic risk factors published by the Wake County School System. Facts for Families - This document is a tool for families to help their children improve academically. There is also a Spanish version. Both are publications of the Wake County Public School System. Friday Center in Raleigh - The Friday Center offers seminars, classes and presentations on Fridays at the Centennial Campus of NCSU. Visit their website for information on this Friday's schedule.
