Wake County School to Career Web Site

Career Fairs are held yearly for each grade level. The 7th and 8th grade Career Fairs provide an opportunity for one-on-one interaction with speakers from all walks of life. Participants address a classroom of students for approximately 45 minutes. Students see multiple speakers during each fair giving them the opportunity to evaluate different careers.

Speakers are found through the Rainbow Packet handed out to all parents at the beginning of each school year. This is a chance for volunteers to sign up to participate in school to career events like Job Shadowing, PAC and Career Fairs. Other speakers are found through the Business Alliance or from past speaking engagements.

The 6th grade Truck Fair focuses on careers which use vehicles in their work. This is probably the most fun event of the year with all kinds of trucks, cars etc parked in the roundabout in front of school. Students interview drivers about their occupations while learning about the vechicles they use.

Great Xplorations is a county wide event to showcase careers from every walk of life. The venue is an open arena setting with students moving from table to table talking to participants about their careers. Open to the 8th and 9th grades, this event is limited in the number of participants from each school.
