Job Shadow Day is held on Ground Hog Shadow Day in February. This is a chance for an eighth grader to spend time with someone in the workplace. Students shadow someone in a career of their choosing for part or all of the day to see what it is like to work in that field.

This is not Take Your Child to Work Day which is observed in April. Students should look for someone outside the family to shadow. If a student can not find their own host, the school will attempt to find one for them. They should specify their interest area on the letter of intention so hosts can be located. If no host is available in that area, students will be placed with a host who can shadow them.

Parents are responsible for their child's transportation and lunch, if they stay over lunch time. They must drop off and pick the student up at the shadow location. When parents sign the letter of intention for their student to shadow, they are agreeing to provide transportation. In addition, a Field Trip form must be signed to allow the student to participate and excuse their absence from class. Students are still responsible for any homework they might miss on this day.

Because hosts volunteer their time, it is important for students to remember to be prompt when reporting to their shadowing assignments, dress appropriately for the event and be courteous observing the character traits they are taught in school.

Returning forms on their due date is the responsibility of the student. Late forms will not be accepted, preventing students from Job Shadowing. For more additional information contact the Career Development Coordinator at 387-4411 or click on the links below.

Hosts who want to participate in Job Shadow Day should contact the Career Development Coordinator at 387-4411 to volunteer their time. Students are not to be driven by hosts anywhere during the event. All students are insured on this date by the county.
