Wake County School to Career Web Site

School to career is our goal in the Career and Technical Education department. We encourage students to think about their careers by introducing them to a variety of elective classes and reinforce this through various events, exposing students to careers they might never have imagined. Career assessment activities are held to provide students with a chance to reflect on their interests. We also maintain access to other career resources to assist students in discovering their interests.

We have Career Fairs for all grades levels yearly. The Career Decisions class participates in the Great Xplorations Career Fair which draws students from all over the district to meet businesses from every corner of the county.

Job Shadowing is a opportunity for students to personalize their career exploration. It is held each year in February on Groundhog Shadow Day. Students spend time in a career of their choosing, discovering what actually happens in the working world.

Keyboarding and Business Computer Training classes have an end of semester test CTE Post Asssessment Test which evaluates their performance. This test is a culmination of their semester's learning, counting as 20% of their class grade.

All eighth graders are tested yearly for their computer skills. Review training for this state wide test, known as NC Desk, is held in the fall. On-line materials are available for students to use in preparing for the test. Successful completion of this test is a requirement for high school graduation.

Without community support none of our events would be possible. The Davis Drive Middle/Green Hope High Business Alliance supports all our events by providing speakers who connect their life experiences to our school's training. The Business Alliance meets monthly to plan and coordinate such activities as the Career Fairs, Job Shadowing, and Xtreme Beginnings to name a few.

Parents are encouraged to participate in our school events as volunteers. Additionally, there are resources for career development on this website for parents to use with their children. Web pages in all core interest areas as well as electives are available.
