DDMS After School Activities 08-09 BATTLE OF THE BOOKS Description of Club: Advisor:   Meeting Day/Location: CHESS CLUB Description of Club: Advisor: Mr. Barnes   Meeting Day/Location: FANTASY BOOK CLUB Description of Club: The Fantasy Book Club is open to all students who love to read fantasy and science fiction books.  We discuss what we’ve been reading, create book displays in the Media Center, and write book reviews for our online blog.  New members are always welcome. Advisor: Ms. Tomasevich   Meeting Day/Location: Every other Wednesday in the Media Center from 3:00-4:00 Meeting Dates: 9/24, 10/8, 10/22, 11/5, 11/19, 12/3, and 12/17 MATHCOUNTS Description of Club: MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, coaching and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement. In the DDMS MATHCOUNTS club, we practice for the math counts state competition. Advisors: Ms. Chalke and Ms. Pam Catlett Meeting Day/Time/Location: National MATHCOUNTS Website: www.mathcounts.org ODYSSEY OF THE MIND Description of Club: Advisor: Mr. Glancy   Meeting Day/Location: PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB Description of Club: Advisor: Ms. Schaefer   Meeting Day/Location: SCIENCE CLUB Description of Club: Science Club is a after school activity for all middle school students who are interested in science.  We will carry out experiments, have guest speakers, prepare for regional competitions, and have field trips. Advisors: Dr. Debbie Swift and Ms. Tiffany Schaefer Meeting Day: SCRABBLE CLUB Description of Club: In Scrabble club, we will learn the rules of and play Scrabble; have fun with friends; learn new words and even practice math and spelling. Advisor: Ms. Paisie Meeting Day: Every other Tuesday in room 264 with Mrs. Paisie. This club alternates with Writers Guild. Listen to announcements will remind you which group is meeting each week. STUDENT COUNCIL Description of Club: The Davis Drive Middle School Student Council is made up of two representatives from each team. We participate in several activities throughout the year to benefit our school, as well as the community. The Student Council puts on all three of the dances, with the help of the PTA. The annual food drive, “Pennies for Patients,” Spirit Week, and are just a few of the programs that the Student Council is in charge of. Last year, the Student Council donated money to the American Cancer Society, Ronald McDonald House, Coats for Kids, and people in need. Advisor: Miss Luca Meeting Day: WRITERS GUILD Description of Club: In the Writers Guild, we share stories and poems we've written; ask for ideas to overcome writers' block; talk about favorite books and authors; this year we want to publish a school literary magazine. Advisor: Ms. Paisie Meeting Day/Time/Location: Every other Tuesday in room 264 with Mrs. Paisie. This club alternates with Scrabble Club.
